Transgender and gender expansive youth are at extreme risk for poor to devastating outcomes as adults, including HIV infection, suicide attempts, domestic violence, homelessness, substance abuse, sex work and unemployment, and the rates are exponentially higher among communities of color. Family acceptance is an evidence-based preventive strategy to reduce the risk for negative life outcomes which has fueled our motto: Acceptance is Protection. Our team works daily with families while they are still together, when we can promote family acceptance, a protective factor that leads to dramatic positive impacts on health and social outcomes.
