Clinic Therapist

Join our team at Ackerman Institute for the Family's Gender & Family Project and provide therapy to families with transgender and non-binary loved ones!

Position Summary:

This position of Clinic Therapist will be reporting to Gender & Family Project's Director, with support from the Clinical Director. Clinic Therapists are responsible for providing therapeutic services to families through the Ackerman Institute for the Family’s New York State Office of Mental Health. In addition to skills in Family Therapy, the qualified candidate will be fluent in discussing race, gender identity and other areas of marginalization. The Clinic Therapist is also expected to work collaboratively, and provide clear, clinical documentation in a timely manner.

Part-Time (up to 20 hours/week) at a rate of $50/hour

Hybrid (remote and in person) based on the family's needs

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide weekly couple and family therapy for the Institute. Case load may also contain individual cases of family members who are already receiving family services in the clinic.
  • Provide minimum of 4 sessions per week and up to 20 sessions a week.
  • Maintain up-to-date, timely, electronic chart records that include treatment plans and session notes.
  • Must be available for clinical supervision for 2 hours a month, held bi-weekly.
  • Must be able to conduct tele-therapy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Must hold a current and valid license to practice mental health independently in the state of New York such as LMSW, LCSW, LMFT, LMHC, or licensed psychologist.
  • 2+ years of clinical experience in Family Therapy.
  • Must have experience working with children, as well as their family members, from overburdened NYC school and community agency partners.
  • Must be well versed in issues related to race, gender identity and other areas of marginalization.
  • Must have knowledge and experience in working with LGBTQ+ youths.
  • Bilingual preferred, in English/Spanish.
  • Knowledge and application of the Ackerman Relational Approach and/or Family Therapy theories.
  • Experience in social service setting with working knowledge of case management systems and planning techniques is preferred.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
  • Commitment to Ackerman Institute values of inclusion, collaboration, and transparency.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

COVID Requirements:

  • AIF requires its Employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 including any booster shots if required, where allowable under the law and based on guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and local health authorities, unless they are approved for a reasonable accommodation based on disability, medical condition, pregnancy, or religious belief that prevents them from being vaccinated.
  • If you are not vaccinated, you are required to have received at least one COVID-19 shot prior to your first day of employment and to provide proof of your vaccination status within the first 30 days of your employment. For the two COVID-19 shot regimen, you will be required to provide proof of your second COVID-19 shot within the first 60 days of your employment. Failure to provide timely proof of your COVID-19 vaccination status will result in the termination of your employment with AIF.
  • If you are unable to be fully vaccinated due to disability, medical condition, pregnancy, or religious belief, you will be required to apply for a reasonable accommodation within the first 30 days of your employment in order to remain employed with AIF. As a part of this process, you will be required to provide information or documentation about the reason you cannot be vaccinated. If your request for an accommodation is not approved, then your employment may be terminated.
